The University of Wolverhampton’s Fire and Rescue Degree Program has been given 100% by  third year students in the 2017/18 National Students Survey.

The course was also ranked 3rd out of 400 +  courses run at the University in the survey.  Many students have now joined fire and rescue  services across the UK, including  West Midlands Fire Service, Staffordshire FRS, and Leicestershire FRS.

The Programme

The degree programmes were designed by firefighters for firefighters and incorporate modules developed to meet the needs of the future service. The degree modules  include:

An Introduction to the modern Fire and Rescue Services which provides an overview of the FRS for those who are new to the field and need to be brought up to speed with current developments

Fire Engineering Science and Hazardous Materials  gives student a basic understanding of the science needed for effective firefighting and management of Hazmat incidents

Fire Dynamics and Suppression allow students to learn about how fire develops and can be controlled

Fire Risk Management and Operational Risk Management modules introduce students to planning an emergency service in an integrated way combining Fire Prevention, Fire Protection and Emergency Response

Fire Leadership and Command develops management skills and theory for the FRS senior command officers of the future

Emergency Planning and Interoperability and Collaboration looks at the way the UK and other countries respond to major disasters

Fire Scene Investigation helps students identify the causes and development of fires involving fatalities and major losses

Community Safety and Social Policy investigates how the service can prevent fires and other incidents occurring – saving lives and property through prevention

Fire Safety in the Built Environment and FRS Law allows students to gain an understanding of the fire safety processes used in the UK including carrying out fire risk assessments on buildings

F&RS Project allows students to investigate an issue in depth, working with services to develop “real world” solutions to real problems
